If I were to say to you the words ‘car hire’, what does it make you think of?
For many people it conjures up images of summer holidays, airport rental booths and not enough boot space.
And for lots of us this is the extent to which our paths will cross with the business of temporary car possession.
Which is why it’s curious that there are so many people renting cars in that well known holiday hot spot of Thame.
Clearly they can’t all be here for their summer holidays, so what’s the deal?
I was speaking to Scott our hire manager the other day about this and he told me there were 4 main reasons people kept coming back to hire cars from him.
The most common reason may surprise you.
One such typical rental customer isn’t a holiday maker but a well heeled business-person.
Think of a consultant, travelling the length and breadth of the country to visit clients and grease the wheels of commerce.
With modern working arrangements they may only be on the road one or two days a week, and if this is the only reason for using the family’s 2nd car that’s a lot of driveway days.
Of course, there’s a break even point where it becomes more economical to own your own vehicle, but when the maths stop stacking up it can make a lot more sense to hire-on-demand.
Typically, we drop the car off at their front door first thing in the morning and then return to pick it up again when they’re back from a day of hard graft.
This was just one of the four reasons our hire centre is so busy, and you may be as surprised as I was to learn how common it was.
It’s not all about sweaty queues at the rental booth & suitcases on your lap.
