New Year's Resolutions

I woke up on Wednesday full of the usual New Year’s resolve.

Get healthy, reach my fighting weight, become ridiculously fit… the usual suspects.

I was still thinking about them when I got into my car later that morning, and sat quietly for a few moments looking around.

Everywhere I looked, the carnage wreaked by young family filled my retinas and made my head spin.

I couldn’t focus properly, all of a sudden consumed by a jarring rage of low standards, and there and then I made one more resolution.

2020 is going to be the year where I look after my car.

Thing is, I know that 3 kids are going to leave a trail of destruction.

It’s what they do and they’re very good at it.

When it’s in the house it inevitably gets tidied away by either me or my wife.

But when you get out of your car bundling 3 rowdy kids and all your shopping into the house, you close the door on the sweet wrappers and discarded magazines and kicked off items of clothing and forget about it.

Until you get back into the car and say to yourself: “I really must get my car sorted out”.

So my other resolution for 2020 is for a new weekly ritual.

Every Sunday morning I WILL get out to the car and have a good clear out.

Not a full on valet, but at least remove the rubbish, give things a quick wipe down and make the car a more pleasant place to be.

Whatever resolutions you might have made, why not make a couple of motoring-related promises to yourself as well.

Check your tyres once a month, be more courteous to other drivers, clean your car once a week, don’t wait to the last minute to book your service…

Easy things to do that will make your life that little bit less stressful.

Have a fantastic start to the New Year!
