The cynics among us might think that Valentine’s Day is just an excuse for card manufacturers to cash in, but it can also be a great excuse to celebrate with the one that we love. Unless of course you listen to Nick's motto ‘that everyday should be Valentine’s Day’, the old romantic.
If your anything like me and have left your Valentines planning to last minute, don’t worry I've been asking everyone around the office for the best places to visit within driving distance of Thame. So you can still woo your loved one by whisking them off to a romantic retreat or a fancy meal. There are so many to choose from, and we’ve hand picked the top five most romantic destinations some of us have visited.
1) Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield.
The Stadhampton Crazy Bear is pretty cool, but it’s sister venue is one of the most romantic settings I have ever come across (that may sound like an exaggeration, but no word of lie it’s beautiful!).
2) Tynley Hall, Hampshire
This is the perfect combination between traditional elegance with 21st century. It’s in a stunning location, overlooking sweeping lawns and lakes. They have a beautiful Oak room where you can enjoy a fine dining experience with a 5 course meal if you don’t quite fancy an overnight stay.
3) The Randolph Hotel, Oxford
This is an iconic landmark in the city and offers plenty of romantic and atmospheric restaurants and bars. If the weather is good, you could combine a trip with some punting on the river for a proper Oxford experience!
4) Fredricks Hotel & Spa, Maidenhead
A weekend (or even a day!) away at this gem will leave you feeling like you’ve had a holiday! A strictly adult environment with no children allowed, you can get away from it all and treat your loved one to a relaxing pamper experience.
5) Gannet Inn, Cornwall
If you're up for a bit more of a drive, then snag a ‘low season rate’ room, jump in your car and head down to St. Ives for a fantastically Cornish gastronomic getaway.
