In your home if you leave lights and electrical items on when you are not using them they waste energy. The same goes for your car, If you are not using the rear heated window for example turn it off. - Don’t be idle
If you do get stuck in a queue and you think you will be their for a while turn your engine off. - Drive smoothly
Try to accelerate gently as excesive braking can cause fuel inefficiency. When decelerating try to use the gears smoothly changing down again preventing excessive braking. - Watch your limit
Figures from the Dept of Transport show that driving at 70mph uses up to 9% more fuel than at 60mph and up to 15% more than at 50%. Not only will you saving money but also providing less pollution. - Get your car serviced properly and correctly
No one likes spending money but correct servicing regularly will save you money in the long run as it will keep your engine running more efficiently. - Plan your journey
Maps are great, Sat Nav is even better, try an AA or RAC planner before you go. If you don’t get lost you won’t use any more fuel than you have to. - Height and weight
We don’t mean you personally! Cars are designed to be aerodynamic. If you put bike racks, top boxes or roof racks on them they will produce drag and make your car less efficient. So take them off if you can when you are not using them. - The right rubber
